CFF traces its roots back in 2007 when Johnan, Winnie and Irene founded a non-profit organization called Prisoners Support Organization (PSO) which worked with ex-prisoners transiting back into society through rehabilitation and service provision. Winnie had been incarcerated at the Kirinya Women prison and when she finished serving her sentence, we shared thoughts on how to support her and more ex-convicts transiting back into society as there were a few rehabilitation programs at that time. With Funding from Irish Aid and the $10 Dollar Club in Washington, PSO established community rehabilitation programs for ex-offenders among others. We eventually partnered with Bikes for the World (BFW) and Working Bicycles Chicago to donate bicycles and support the rehabilitation program which mainly supported ex-convicts and youth in the informal sector with a number of beneficiaries focusing mainly on small scale farming initiatives. PSO received over 9000 bicycles from Working Bikes (WB) and Bicycles for the World (BFW) since 2008 to 2014. As the mission and vision becoming more clearer, PSO was rolled out and in December 2021, Cycles for Farmers (CFF) was formed. CFF currently has its bicycle main workshop located in Kamwokya, 1 shop in Bukoto and planning to set up more centers in Mbale (Eastern Uganda) and Lira (Northern Uganda).

What we do.
Cycles For Farmers (CFF) is a nonprofit social enterprise that seeks bicycle mobility solutions among smallholder farmers and young people (youth) that are particularly involved in farming, trade, education and community activities, in doing so, we offer transport solutions and improve livelihoods.
This is being realized through partnerships with our supporters who support our cause and donate used bicycles to foster our programs. Once the bikes are received, they are repaired and refurbished by our mechanics and ready for use by the beneficiaries. This is all realized by a constant availability of used parts and tools from our partners with other parts being sourced from bicycle wholesalers who bring new parts from China into Uganda. Once a bicycle has been fully serviced, it will be ready to hit the road. Bicycles are a versatile means of transport in Uganda and have an astounding impact on households resulting in increased incomes, facilitate goods movement, reduce drop-out rates for rural school going youths, create jobs, increase access to health centers and bridge the gap between farms and markets.
